Dubai is set to welcome a new addition to its offshore lineup – “The Island.” Joining the ranks of Bluewaters Island, Jumeirah Bay Island, Palm Jumeirah, Palm Jebel Ali, Pearl Jumeira, World Islands, and Dubai Islands, this 10.5-hectare mega project is gearing up to make waves in the city’s real estate landscape.
Situated off the coast of Umm Suqeim, adjacent to the Jumeirah public beach, The Island is assured to become a prominent fixture near the Jumeirah Beach Hotel and the upcoming Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab. The project, anticipated to commence construction soon, is backed by developer Wasl, who has enlisted the China State Construction Engineering Corporation for the monumental task.
A Glance at The Island’s Blueprint
According to reports, The Island is set to host properties featuring renowned Las Vegas hotel brands, including MGM, Bellagio, and Aria. The development plans encompass a total of 1,400 hotel rooms and apartments, alongside an array of shops and restaurants. The inclusion of MGM, known for its global gaming facilities, sparks speculation about the potential for The Island to house a gaming zone.
The establishment of the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA) in the UAE in September further fuels discussions about gaming possibilities on The Island. Tasked with creating a world-leading regulatory framework for commercial gaming and a national lottery, the GCGRA aims to ensure a socially responsible and well-regulated gaming environment. Stringent guidelines and high standards will govern all participants, aligning with Dubai’s commitment to responsible and regulated entertainment.
A Glimpse Into The Island
Wasl, the visionary developer behind this venture, has appointed the China State Construction Engineering Corporation, marking a significant step towards transforming plans into reality. The construction deal, estimated at a staggering Dhs4.4 billion, stands as the largest in Dubai since 2017.
The Island is slated to offer a total of 1,400 hotel rooms and apartments. Beyond accommodations, it will feature a curated selection of shops and restaurants, promising a diverse and vibrant experience for residents and visitors alike.
Looking Ahead
With the potential emergence of gaming zones, including the speculated location of UAE’s first casino in Ras Al Khaimah’s Dream Island, Dubai is poised to become a multifaceted entertainment destination. The planned Wynn resort opening in 2026 further amplifies the city’s commitment to offering diverse and world-class entertainment options.
With construction primed to commence imminently, The Island heralds the dawn of a new era in Dubai’s real estate saga, offering a tantalizing glimpse into the city’s future as a global hub of luxury, leisure, and the promise of new and multifaceted entertainment possibilities.
